    Hey,

May seem like a simple question but its just confusing me, is annual leave for a part time worker calculated on this years hours or the previous?!

The reason i ask is i work in general (through college year) 16 hours a week but at christmas/summer holidays this is more, up to 48 hours etc so it totally changes depending on week/time of year

So if my leave was to be calculated on this year, how would that be done?!

Thanks alot! Oh, our leave year in work is january-december if that makes any difference!

One way to work it out is 8% of total hours worked that year.

So if you did 40 weeks at 16 hrs
and 12 weeks at 40 hrs

add thses hours together, multiply be 8% = 90hrs

    then divide 90 by 4 = 22.5

So you'd get 4 weeks off and get paid for 22 hrs each week.

Or you could take 90 hours off and get paid.

Just to be clear. You are not entitled to annual leave you haven't earned. As a part time worker you are entitled to 8% of the time you have actually worked thus far. Future projections do not come into it.

So, your entitlement this year so far is 8% of the hours you have completed.

It's based on your companies leave year which could be anything.
Legally you are not allowed to carry holidays over to the next year, so make sure you use them.

Just looking for a bit of info. I starting working with my present company in December, so is my annual leave this year based on 8% of the hours I worked in December?

Technically yes, but most places will let you 'go into a minus' as you will not get a chance to have anymore holidays until the summer for example. By then you would probably be entitled to 2 weeks off.

So now if you took holidays you'd only have (1.67 x 2) days hols if full time, but they would prob pay you for a week, if you were to leave before being entitled to a weeks hols then the money paid to you would come out of your final pay check.
