On BBC just there that Tom Evans has a very serious back injury and in a very serious condition. His parents are with him, they said.

Puts all this in context... Thoughts go out to him.

You could tell when it immediatly happened it wasn't good. His head went straight into the welsh player and he didn't get a chance to turn his neck.

Team doctor James Robson told Scottish Rugby's official website: "Thom has sustained damage to his neck that has required surgery.

"He is moving his arms and legs and we are hoping for a seedy recovery."

Hope he has a speedy recovery. Was watching the match, didnt they say initially that he had a leg injury? Or did I hear McGurk right?

Was a nasty looking collision though, never good when you see the doctor being called for.

I myself thought it looked really bad when it happened as I didn't see him move an inch! I have bit of experience from bad collisions/ accidents and it dod not look good.
If what the latest reports say is true I'll be glad. Hate to see anyone get any life threatening/debilitating injuries.

He's "moving his arms and legs", that's all I need to hear. Everything else is fixable with time, good medical care and rehab.

A bit more news about Evans

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/scottish/8513669.stm
"Thom had sustained slippage to one of the vertebrae and that required to be eased back into place.

"The surgeons are pleased with his progress, Thom has movement in his arms and legs and his family have been to visit him today, as have a number of his Glasgow Warriors team-mates.

"He will remain at the hospital today and, if he continues to progress, he will be allowed to travel back to Scotland into the care of the Glasgow Warriors medical team later this week."

He needs another operation but is on the mend

Glasgow Warriors winger, Thom Evans, is continuing to recover from the injury he sustained in the RBS 6 Nations Championship match against Wales last weekend.

Thom remains in University Hospital Cardiff and is described as being in "good spirits" by medical staff.

Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "Thom has been heartened by the many messages of support he has received from around the world.

"The surgeons are delighted with his progress. Thom and his mum met with the surgeons last night and Thom has opted to undergo a further procedure later this week, which will enhance the surgery that has already taken place and provide further stabilisation to his neck.

"This procedure is optional and Thom could have decided to have it done at a later point, or not at all. He's decided to go ahead now and that should help with the whole recovery process.

"The same surgeons who performed the initial operation will undertake this procedure. Once he has settled from this procedure the expectation would be that he will be allowed to return home."

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s Chris Paterson is also continuing to recover well.

Dr Robson added: "Chris Paterson is continuing to make a good recovery from the injury he sustained to his kidney. He is hopeful of being released from hospital either later today or tomorrow. Then he would remain in Cardiff for a few days' rest before travelling home with his wife. "

Paterson has been to visit Evans in his ward on an adjacent floor at the hospital today and the duo spent 30 minutes in animated conversation.
