    Should I get it? (pun!)

I have my test coming up in three weeks. Should I get this book? Has anyone used it before - is it helpful?

Does it contain just the theory questions that you are asked or does it give advice for the actual practical part of the test?

Also, is it available in the shops? I couldn't find it in Easons today, even though they had loads of Theory Test books and CDs, but I can always try other bookstores.

Hello. I used his book and passed my test this week. :D
It was excellent for explaining the actual driving part of the test, explains exactly what and how you do it, shows diagrams on right of way etc etc.
But several questions the examiner asked me were not in the book (which put me in a sweat straight away)!
All the road signs were covered though and it explained right of way at junctions very well with diagrams.

While it is a good book to read it is no substitute for hands on experance. Your driving instructor should be able to walk you thru the test better than a book. There are a couple of variants around too. I seen a really good one in easons that was written by a driving instructor. Make sure the book is penned by someone who knows what there talking about.

I bought 'Get It' online and to be honest there isn't anything in it that my instructor hasn't already been through with me.
It certainly won't do any harm to read it.

Thanks for the replies! I don't intend to use it as a substitue to lessons, but rather as a supplement to the lessons I am already getting!

Does anyone know where I could buy it cheap online?

I would def recommend reading it but it's a pity you've to buy it at all, pricey enough. Not sure about buying it online, google it.
    Whens your test? Where?

    Best of luck :D

I read this also and found it useful. There's a similar pass your test book by AA that my girlfriend has that I thought was pretty bad and would avoid. I'd recommend "Get It" though.

Also, I found this website to be an excellent resource: http://www.drivingtesttips.ie/

I've been looking at the website for a while! It's great.. I love how you can watch the videos over and over, and the instruction on the website is clear and concise, and easy to understand!

I found the book useful...it is clear and easy to read. Yes your driving instructor should have covered most of the book but if you are a read/write and/or a visual learner then you will find the book more useful than your instructor talking about the varying aspects covered in the book. I am not really an aural learner so the book along with lots of practice was the best for me.
    Good Luck :)

Didn't know this book existed up until now, going to get it now as it looks like it will be a great help.

    Hi,

Would anybody out there have the old driving test book for sale, swap or to lend?

I know it's missing some updated information (contra bus lanes, etc..) but I've been driving 10yrs now and am facing my motorbike test soon.. I just want to revise with the book I originally learned from.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

    Hi hotsn0t -

I have a copy of "Get it! (The Irish Driving Test)" by Brian O'Leary. It's from 2005, so I don't know if it's the one you want, but it's only gathering dust here, so I'd be happy to post it onto you if you PM me your address.

Incidentally, I also have an ancient (2001?) edition of "The Official Driver Theory Test" (Dept. of Environment one). It's so old it has the questions in MPH, but there's a little leaflet insert to give you the conversions, and to give the newer KPH questions. If it would be any use to you, let me know - I'd be glad to see someone have it, rather than just eventually sticking it in the recycling!

Ya, you should get it 'Get It' book its very good. Goes through what is needed for the test as well as what you have learnt in your driving lessons. Just revises what you have learnt really. Obviously putting what you have learnt into practice is what will pass you your test, but the book is good to give you an insight as to what to expect for your test and how to deal with each area you be assessed in. There are helpful topics in it with road signs, a couple of theory questions which are most likely or most commonly asked, it will have diagrams too. Worth reading it from a review point of view before your driving test. Its only a few pages, not too long, you have it read in a short time won't take you all week to read! It gives the key information in it and its to the point no waffle, explains things fully short and sweet which I like about it and hopefully its stuff you have learnt already!

It be cheaper to get it online or get it second hand.
Best of luck with your test OP!
