Be it online or in a shop (Southern Ireland).

Has anyone seen any good deals out there for that price or under ?

Fastest bike? Depends on the rider. Decent frame and spec: planet x wit 6700 (if you don't mind being one of many people with one, it's a good bike, but some people want something rarer).

Going to have a bit of a rant a bit here. Apologies in advance.

PX are good bikes for a good price. Nothing against them, they look lovely, are light and apparently responsive.

BUT FFS, give it a break. Have some FU**ING imagination.
The next parrott that recommends one, I am going to hunt you down and have at you. Be warned. Rant over.

There are loads of bikes under 1500 notes that will be plenty good.

Spesh Allez for a start have a fine reputation, as do the Boardmans (if built properly). Orbea Acqua with full Ultegra around 1300, and 105 less than 1100 IIRC. Plenty comfy, but frame is a bit racy as opposed to "sportif" in terms of say headset size.
I also think that some Felts (Z75 maybe) come in around 1400. Z5's and F5 around 1700, but you said 1500 so I will try to respect this.
You would get a Kuota Kharma around 1600. Finaly Cubes come in below 1500.

I think that 1500 is an unfortunate price however, in that a lot of bikes come in around the following price brackets
    circa 1000
    circa 1800-2200
    >2500
    >3500
    >whatever you have in the bank account etc.
1500 sort of falls between two stools.

    About 1400 now IIRC.

The fastest bike is the one cycled by the fastest cyclist (his or her legs).
Honestly. I could custom build my bike using the lightest parts available and give some of the more atlethic cyclists here my aluminium trek 3900 and I'm sure i'd be beat in a race.

    Would you buy 2nd hand?

    BTW
I may have a bike for sale (brand new frame) with Ultegra group (compact).

I haven't been to a bike shop in a while, so online is where I see deals and unfortunately the planet-x, while mentioned far too often, falls into that magical bracket of "lots of bike for 1500 euro or less".

1500 in cycleways gets you a specialized allez, nice bike, but on a comparison basis:

it has an aluminium frame with carbon stays
It has a 105 groupset (5600 I'm guessing, don't think the new one is out yet) with non-group R600 crankset.

While I agree ROK ON that the planet x is overexposed, it is really up to posters to say "I saw this bike, I read about this bike, what do you think?". If someone just says 1500 euro, best deal for that money, I'm afraid it is hard to recommend many other bikes.

I think the Acqua is also an aluminium bike with carbon stays?

Focus Cayo is an excellent bike, they only really fell out of favour because the prices went up in 2009 and I think again in 2010.

Like ROK ON says, the boardman carbon is also a great option. SRAM Rival, excellent groupset and I prefer the look of it to the 6700:

A €65 voucher when you reserve that bike...

It's not the bike that makes you fast, you'll need to look then find the right one for you, if you like the bike you ride it more....you get faster

    ha ha, well said

my brother has been trying to order one since monday, but is having a nightmare dealing with Planet X

after buying it online, he got an email from planet x the following day saying his payment didnt go through, after checking with his bank, they confirmed the payment did in fact, go through.

he then rang planet x and got hung up on twice, and told his payment was "fraudulent"

so now he has to wait until next tuesday to see if he gets either the bike, or
    his money back

if he has neither, MBNA(bank), give my brother his money back, and take legal action against Planet x

not good business if you ask me

That is shocking and a real surprise, my dealings with Planet X have been exemplary and I've nothing but praise for them, I hope it all works out well for your brother.

he's hoping now that they dont send the bike, and he'll just get on here in Ireland.

but he was on the phone to some girl in planet x earlier, she just kept repeating "you'll have to pay on paypal now" as my brother repeated, "but ive already paid!!!" kinda funny in a way.....

Surprising, i've done a fair amount of research on planet-x and while opinions of the bikes vary i've only heard good things about the service even from people unhappy with the products...

Could do a lot worse than this, I've the 2009 model and I bought it here...

Roughly €1,100 on today's / yesterday's FX rate. I've heard some US shops can be quite...creative interms of how they can invoice you. Not that I'd be recommending anything illegal though. Around another €200 to deliver if I remember correctly.

All good options if you want to spend more and get less bike.

Exactly what I didn't do! £500 for a full carbon bike with Ultegra gruppo.

    Second hand mind you.
