    Hi all,

Can't remember email address for my original username. Grrr!!

Anyway, I failed NCT for visual defect of oil under car from a leak. Brought it to garage and they fixed leak but didn't clean up the oil and were fairly vague as to how to do it (even suggested driving through puddles ffs!).
    T
he engine looks grand from above but I believe that underneath is badly drenched in oil. The garage also suggested that I get a powerhose and open the bonnet and stick that down the back of the engine and that will clear some of it. I don't have any way of lifting the car to get underneath. Can anybody tell me how the hell I'm going to clean this for the retest? I can't even see the dirt!

    Thanks a mill,
    Gumby.

Degreaser. You'll probably have no option but to go at it from underneath.

How could they be sure they have it fixed if they didn't clean it?

Any decent place should have just done it as part of the job!

Water splashing against it wouldn't be able to clean it off, you would need to get a power washer at the area.

Engine degreaser, brake cleaner or petrol should be able to take it off but you will need to catch the oil/cleaner mixture that comes off - firstly for environmental reasons and also to avoid a nasty stain on your driveway.

If it was me, I'd take it back and ask them to clean it off - how are you supposed to check if it's leaking after the repair?!
