What is the story with all the Laois players going to Parnells started off with Parkinson then Rooney was it I think and Begley all said they where goin for work. Now you have Mj Tierney going, now Tierney is a student in IT Carlow, played Sigerson this year and I believe has 1 more year to go in his course and has the rest of this year until may to go. He is also a player who returned from Asia for a few weeks, a few years ago, to play for his club in the club final and Leinster Championship I remember. What is the attraction of Parnells? Anyone any answers?

    More than a rumour.

Should the GAA not investigate these alleged payments? How much are they getting? How can Parnells afford to pay?

Have you got any sources to go along with these "rumours"?

I'm leaving this thread open for now, but myself and the rest of the GAA mods have to take a zero tolerence policy when it comes to people posting accusations of players or clubs. Do not post serious allegations without some form of link to back it up. Thanks!

I started this trend and I was hoping for fact or to hear from people from these guys clubs in Laois to just give us a insight into the thoughts behind the moves! When everyone first sees the story they presume money is involved but is that it or is there more to it? Tierneys case seems to be the strangest in regards his college situation and dedication he showed to the club in the past.

Well Parnells came into a good bit of money recently when they sold a club ground

Did they? I heard Begley is employed as a coach for the schools in the area. I also think that is very funny. Keneally got the same gig with Kerry county board. These guys havent kicked a gaelic ball in years. Fair enough the oz rules guys will know about the fitness etc but kids need to learn the basics!!

I'm just saying I don't want to be dragged into a situation where wild accusations are being thrown about left right and centre without any proof what so ever. We've had problems regarding this before in the past, and that's why it is specifically mentioned in the charter.

Like I said, carry on the discussion because it's an important topic. I just wanted to give a quick pre-warning in case anything got out of hand :)

parnells sold ground out in the airport and are rolling in it ,take it as a laois man that there is shall we say good incentives for these tranfers which are not going down well in this county as it is weaking our clubs who would be a million miles fianically from parnells that is the biggest concern and surley the county board and croke park are watching this and that it seems loyalty for your club is now a thing of the past but the other side of the coin is ,the players are looking for out for themselves ,colm parkinson could be playing in a all-ireland club final again if he stuck around
ps:well done to the laois hurlers on beaten kilkenny ,its not often we can say that:D:D

It's understandable that you and the mods in general should take a cautious approach to this sort of thing, but we all know that it goes on and it's something that is being swept under the carpet in the GAA.

I know nothing about the Parnells situation but I was told by a player from another prominent Dublin club that a player who signed for them was 'rewarded' with a significant financial sum. Along with managers being paid it's become something of an elephant in the room that we all know is there but everyone pretends it isn't. IMO it rather tarnishes the success of any Dublin club when they're seen to be actively recruiting players from outside the county, 'buying' in players so to speak, and I'm making no direct accusations against Parnells since I don't know much about them. But I know that other clubs have done it.
