Strange Boards.ie problem

    Right, so I have his'n'hers laptops connected to the internet via a wireless router.

    No problem with mine, connects to Boards.ie without problem. However, my wife's laptop connects to Boards.ie and appears to hang when connecting to adserver.adtech.de. It appears to eventually time out and then the Boards.ie webpage is displayed.

    Here's what I have tried:
    • different browsers - IE, Firefox and Chrome. All hang when it gets to adserver.adtech.de, so I am fairly confident it is not a browser problem
    • removing the Anti-virus software (AVG)
    • disabling the firewall
    • ping fails, but then again, it fails on the "working" laptop
    And here's the odd thing - when I connect my wife's laptop to a UK based VPN, there is no problem with adserver.adtech.de, the Boards.ie webpages load without problem.

    This one really has me stumped. It has only started happening in the last day or two. As far as I can tell, some Windows Updates have occurred, but I can't seem to tie it down to when the problem started happening.

    My wife's laptop is a Compaq Mini netbook, running XP, mine is a Dell laptop running Vista.

    Any suggestions as to what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

    Simple things to check;

    traceroute to adserver.adtech.de from the affected laptop compared to the unaffected one.

    Try ipconfig /flushdns on the affected one and try again.

    Or add an entry in its hosts file that points to 127.0.0.1.
