    Here's a question.
Say you currently have an ESB and Bord Gais account, and will be moving to a new house that only has ESB.

But would like to move the new house's leccy over to Bord Gais

Is there any way to do this without closing and re-opening the Bord Gais account?
We were actually considering moving our current leccy to them (house that we are quiting), how long does that take?

Hi Blueplanet, I just did this last week and was in the same situation as you.

You need to ring up both ESB and Bord Gais, with a final reading for the place you are leaving and have the accounts put back into the landlords name.

You then need a new reading to give to Bord Gais for the place you are moving into, which they take and use to transfer your account. They ask for address etc. but it only takes 2 minutes and I found them extremely helpful.

You will then be sent final Electricity/GAS bills to your new address (for your old house) along with a final bill from the ESB (we won't have one as the reading was taken the morning we moved in) in your new place, so that from then on you will be receiving bills for your new address from Bord Gais.

It sounds more complicated than it is.. but it is easy. Honestly! Give Bord Gais notice if the landlords name was not previously on the account - they say 7 days notice but for us that was ok as landlord had her name on the account in between tenants.

    Good luck!
