Diesel Pump Prices

    Hi Lads,

Basically a station down the road is selling diesel at 106 per litre which is a good 10-12 cents less than the others.

I am just curious as to why they can sell for such a price when others are so much more. The diesel appears fine have filled up twice and similar mpg.

It's not like they have a big shop making cash from the spur of the moment purchases.

Just curious as to what prices might be outside of Dundalk.

Not that I am aware but I always believed the margin at the pump was slender?

Is it a Texaco/Statoil/Esso statior or some "Discount Fuel" site?

Been there for a good month now.

I know it's a border county but this is not exactly on the border or down a secluded lane.

    Very visibe and very busy.

It's 109c in Newbridge, so not a huge difference.

Agreed mate - I knew there were other prices around similar but when 3 garages all on the same road are 10-12 cents more it looks odd.

i know the station you are on about. heard from a reliable source that the diesel there is home brew if you know what i mean, pay the extra to save yourself a trip to the garage for a new pump or worse....

Thanks Hammer. I did ask the two times I was in - why and how come it was so cheap but young lads working there had no answer.

The info is credible? You'd trust the info and guessing you will not be going to fill up down there anytime soon?!

Begs the question - if it is true - how can they get away with it for so long?

i was talking to my credible source and he used to fill up there all the time before it changed hands, noticed that the fuel was a bit cheaper which he thought was a bonus. asked the guy filling the car who owned the station now and when he heard who it was changed his mind straight away from filling the car to thats enough diesel now thanks. hearing the name spoke volumes..... those boys are a law to themselves

1.15 is still cheaper than ever other garage in town - it appears to be 1.06 or 1.17/1.19

    Hi guvnor

Its complete rubbish about their fuel being anyway different from anyone elses.

they are cheap because of the location and because the Maxol up there has become very agressive in pricing.

I can catagorically state that their fuel is as perfect as you will get in any normal station, these rumours of "home-brew" are simply ridiculous.

The station you are talking about is the new breed of indy sites that are simply looking to turn 180k + a week volumes with tiny margins and not really bothering with the shop end of things (thus saving on fitout and staffing costs), very often they are being operated by the wholesale companies unbranded and they can sell for 6-8c less than a normal forecourt as they are the middleman and the end retailer.

don't mind the gossips, its good value so avail of it without worry.

    Regards
    HT

they are the same price because they cannot afford not to be, its a price war, usually they last about 3 months after a new site opens, as the new site is looking to make a mark and get people in the door, its perfectly normal.

The other 2 sites will be covered to sell at a loss by their respective head offices

116 cent per litre near me. Even the station that used to charge at least 5 cent less per litre is now consistently level with the competition.

109 seems too good to be true :(

Best I've seen this week is 1.11 for diesel today between Ashbourne and Ratoath - was an abandoned garage that seems to have been reopened recently? (If coming from Ratoath its on the right about a mile after you cross the bridge over the N2).

1.14 is the best I've seen locally

Its obvious you havent had to replace any parts in your car due to washed diesel. Do you live around the border counties?

No I do not live around the border countries, however I do sell close to two million litres of fuel a month of which I purchase approx. 600,000 litres from the exact same supplier that the station in question uses.

Furthermore I have a premises next door to the holding depot that draws the majority of the derv supplies in Dundalk.

if thats the case then fair enough, ive had to repair my car from washed diesel so i suppose once bitten twice shy. i still stand by my soure and am very weary of buying diesel around the border which is why i have my own tank at home.

FWIW, pimps.ie pumps.ie is a great site for shopping around for petrol/diesel.

Found Greatgas on hte old airport road in Santry is doing diesel at 1.09!

I use www.pumps.ie for iPhone. Great while out & about finding the cheapest fuel prices nearby.
Just noticed the 2 "hammers" going at it above, hammer & tongues. :) It's funny, competition has been facilitated in the market & people become immediately suspicious.
