Are you sure that is correct ? I would have thought the numbers were a lot higher.

Since its inception in 1857 a total of 1351 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to 1348 individuals. From that total almost 170 Crosses were won by Irishmen, 12 per cent of all the awards issued. The Irish percentage is astonishing when it is remembered that the Cross could be awarded to servicemen, and for a time, to civilians, throughout the British Empire.

The first Victoria Cross ever was won by an Irishman, Charles Davis Lucas, who later became an admiral. In this book the authors provide a definitive account of Ireland's contribution to the history of the Victoria Cross.

46 Irish VCs in numerous other British Empire campaigns between 1857 to 1914, 37 Irish VCs in the First World War

    Sorry,
Well I wasn’t saying they are the only Irish winners of the Victoria cross I definitely left out the officers that I found while searching the Irish Army regiments & all the ranks of any wars or campaigns outside ww1 .
Also I would expect more will be found for ww1 given time what I listed were the Irishmen serving in Irish regiments that I found while searching for other info, that’s not saying that no others could be found . I agree the Wikipedia, list if most probably the better overall picture.
But i was searching for info in the archives got side tracked & listed what i found at the time, nothing more or less was meant by it.

I would have add more as i found them

The historic first ever Dedication of a VC Grave in the Irish Republic in 2004On Aug 07 at Aughavale Cemetery, Westport Co. Mayo, the unmarked grave of Sgt Maj Coughlan VC was dedicated and a headstone was unveiled.
This was a day of outstanding significance. Firstly because the good Sgt Maj had his grave marked. For any man to be buried in an unmarked grave is sad and wrong. For a decorated Irish warrior hero and VC winner to be so unmarked is more than wrong. The Defence Minister, Mr Michael Smith T.D. in the presence of the British Ambassador Mr. Stuart Eldon, unveiled the headstone. Many descendants of Cornelius Coughlan VC travelled from the UK (Glasgow and Bradford) for the ceremony.

    THE VICTORIA CROSS
Since it’s inception the VC has been awarded 1355 times. Research published by David Truesdale and Richard Doherty in “Irish Winners of the Victoria Cross” shows that at least 200 Irishmen have merited this award.

The conflict in which the greatest number of VCs awarded to Irish-born soldiers was the Indian Mutiny. That's when Irish involvement in the British Army was much greater than it was in WWI.
