    Hi

I saw an ad from Fiat for a new 2010 Punto Grande - including the new scrappage deal (which Dad's car well qualifies for) it works out at €199 or so a month. Are puntos any good ? Are Fiats any good ? Is this a good deal or could he do better ? He's scrapping a '00 Ford Escort.
    Any thoughts ?

You're asking is it a good deal, you haven't told us what the deal is, what is the total cost of the finance ?

Sorry I can't find the ad from the Herald online so I'm not sure of the exact deal. I know its for 60 months. Will keep looking.

Punto's are good reliable cars. Have a look at a Clio also - new one for 9k through scrappage

I assume you're talking about the Fiat ecoplus Bonus. I drove a Grande Punto for a few months. No issues or problems with it and found it to be a nice comfortable car.

    This is their Finance Offer

Personally I'd go for either a Panda or a 500, both of which have good reputations, but are a good bit smaller than the Grande Punto. Fiat used to have somewhat patchy reliability, but their newer models are of a far better standard. Also new Fiats come with 4-year warranty & 4-year european AA cover.

I'd also have a look at a Clio which is very good value. Worth checking out a SEAT Ibiza (10,185) and the Ford Ka (7,995). Plenty of great scrappage deals out there.

The Clio is actually a sweet deal. The mother is considering trading in her 04 Focus against one

If it comes with a 4 year warranty, why not finance it over 4 years at under 250 per month. At least that way, you are covered from all angles

Looks like they've changed their policy.

Have this cached from last week.

They've had 5 year warranties on specific cars in the past but the 4 year was very specifically an Irish thing to try and bring their reputation up here - all the cars it applied to had 2 or 3 year warranties across Europe!

The Ka is basically an ugly Panda - its built by Fiat in a Fiat factory on the Panda chassis with its gearbox, its engines, etc, etc...

Cionadh, is that a new page for the site as its not up yet or advertised. Do you work for fiat?

Edit: I googled fiat 4 year warrantly. In the search engine it said "fiat 4 year warrantly..." but on the page when you click on it it says http://www.fiat.ie/cgi-bin/pbrand.dll/FIAT_IRELAND/showroom/showroomModel.jsp?session=no&categoryOID=-1073809985

If it is true, and Ive the car 3 weeks, wonder if it would be possible to get the 4 year.

I wouldnt think so. You will only get what you signed up for. The deal you got would have reflected this also possibly.
You have alot of miles up for 3 weeks! (from other thread)

Yeah! I bought the car about 250KM from here and drove it back and I do about 50/60KM every day (except maybe sunday). Is that not normal? I thought 16000KM per year was average!
Am not too hung up on the warranty period. 3 years is fine (and AA). I plan to sell it end of '10.

EDIT: my old 97 had 147000 MILES on it!

Sorry, my mistake, thought you had 11,000km on it. That would mean 7 to 8 hours driving every day! Its just when you were talking about having it serviced, I just kinda thought it was 11000. 1100 is average enough.

Don't work for Fiat, I was considering getting a 500, and the 4-year warranty (that was on their site a couple of weeks ago) was an attractive perk of getting a Fiat. It was in their "News and events" section, and is no longer there. Maybe the dealers weren't happy with it.

There is a user on here colm mcm pointed out the 4-year warranty last month

As for the Ka, I think it's nicer looking than the Panda (we have a Panda in the family) and the Titanium spec comes with a lot of goodies that if you added to the Panda would come out more expensive. Panda has the longer warranty though.
