I was just ready to head into town when I heard on 9 0 clock news that there is a fire in a head shop on Capel St.
Anyone know if it's under control yet and if the traffic is still cat?

Nothing showing on the traffic cameras. Tune into 103.2 fm for constant up to the minute traffic reports up to 10 am.

Walked past it about half an hour ago. Traffic on the north quays west of capel st was pretty bad. east of it though the traffic was sailing. I can imagine parnell st etc has been badly effected as well

Nirvana on Capel St is on fire and Capel St is closed.

While the cause of the fire is not yet known, Nirvana's owner Jim Bellamy has suggested it may have been started deliberately, following widespread coverage of a campaign against head shops.

Speaking on Newstalk FM he said: “Somebody has taken the law into their own hands by the disgusting media coverage of the last month or so”.
“We have been tried by the media, found guilty – and this is the sentence”.

As of 45 minutes ago, it was still closed off. Nothing is left of the building(s) above a height of about 8 feet. They must have been storing something ridiculously flammable, or maybe the fire-brigade had to demolish it to stop it falling onto the street.

Closed off till Monday afaik. As for flammable stuff, a sex shop and head shop were on fire, it will burn like fecking f*ck!

If you think Capel Street is a slum, you don't get out much!

Its alright for hardware, furniture,camping/walking gear. Now that I think about it I've bought stuff from a few different shops there, including a pair of couches.

I remember seeing a program a while back which described it as a lower-class type area.

Have a browse in Belle Cheminee sometime-the collection in the huge back area is just stunning. I doubt you'll ever be able to afford anything there though.

No, I'm not. You asked why anyone would shop in a slum and I pointed out that there's a shop there that sells fireplaces costing 100k.
