Just got a copy.Well presented and an excellent reference book.
He played and reviewed all 18 holes courses in Ireland. It will lead
to many many hours of debate and was a monumental undertaking.
It will certainly convince me to try to get to the 'better' courses.

Hi zztop. Plenty of us here have and use the book as a great reference.

Just bought the book last week and its a great reference volume. From my initial perusals it seems that Kevin rates Sligo as the best course in the country with 97/100. Anyone played it?

Indeed a great book. I've played Rosses Point and many of the top rated courses in the country.

It is indeed an amazing course, whether it's the best in the country just comes down to personal opinion. Royal Co. Down would get my no.1 but that's just me.

Spoiled for choice in the north west to be honest, Rosses, Enniscrone, Carne, Murvagh, Ballyliffin..... I'd happily take any of them.

Id rate RCD as no.1 aswell. That said there are plenty of other top quality links courses around the country and Rosses Point is certainly one of them.
The good thing about Kevins book is that he is more or less spot on with the courses rating even though your opinion of whats number 1 etc. will differ slightly.
Could never agree with his high score for Fota Island though! :D

The thing is, while Rosses Point scores the highest, I would not rate it as my favourite - it's simply the way my scoring works. I'd put Carne, RCD, Ballybunion, Rosses Point and Waterville in my top courses, along with the European, Tralee, Enniscrone, Narin&Portnoo... too many courses. And that doesn't include the parklands like Druid's Glen, Adare, Lough Erne...

Alright, Cat of Thunder, what are your thoughts on Fota Island. I'm very interested to hear...

Glad you like the book ZZ - hope it gets you to a few courses you've never considered.

Have a list already drawn up K.Donegal first on the agenda.
Was very surprised that the book is out 1 year and missed
out on getting it for birthday/christmas.With all these 'talk'
shows on tv were you not asked to discuss the book.It would
be of huge interest and an awful lot more entertaining than
    the 'usual suspects'
Whens the 2nd & 3rd coming. The inside stories of social contact
and craic(too tired maybe) or the bok on the 9 hole courses?

I did try to get on the shows - TV and radio - but was met with a deafening silence. That includes the UK too.
Working on a 2nd book about the travels, but not convinced it's working - there are only so many lonely nights in a camper van that a reader can manage! We'll see.
