Is it cheaper to built a concrete wall, face with stone cladding rather than built a natural stone wall, taking account of the labour charges for both. What is the difference in cost?

The long answer is that its dependant on the stone you buy.

In my case it actually works out almost the same price to put natural stone on instead of cladding, as the natural stone I picked is such a low price (20 Eur sqm). A stone mason will be roughly from 50+ Eur sqm. Cladding is around 50 sqm and then you have the price of paying the brickie to stick it on for you.I guess in the current climate labour has fallen a bit so its a bit cheaper to do.

you can buy hand (cut) stone for 130-150 a bag 3-3.5 sqm per bag. the labour is cheaper as well as the mason has less work with it.

that stick on stuff is crap ,cheep looking and if water/frost gets in behind it the game is up.as its only stuck on with a thin bed.
you will mostly see it on builders hotels and slapped up estates

any one putting it on a private house must be blind.

agree can buy natural limestone and nice natural stone wall with stone

costing 20 euro sq mtr and lab cost 50 euro

cladding also sucessfull can look well and if properly done no danger from frost, costs mat 45 sq mtr and lab 30-35 sq mtr

as can see costs similar depends what you really want

Just to give you another option. Depending on what your wall is doing, you may want to build a block wall and finish it in 8" or 9" of natural stone rather than build a full natural stone wall. In this case the blocklayer needs to build footings and leave stainless steel mesh or wall-ties sticking out of the wall so that the mason can attach the stone.

    Regards,

    Fergus.
