If you want to claim rent allowance but dont meet the criteria eg you if arent on the housing waiting list and you havent paid 6 months rent allowance in the last year would it still be possible any way to get rent allowance? has anyone been in the same positition? I have apllied for council housing but its been months and…

You can ask, the worst they can say is "no".

I think you only have to have applied for the council housing, not that the application has progressed.
