Hey just wondering do I have to register with FAS if i am on JSA? Just wondering because I dont really have any interest in doing any courses or anything with them and also I am doing a course anyway at the moment paying for it myself which I believe will help me a get a job as I think the FAS courses just would not be of benefit to me. Is there any point going if I dont think they can help? So what should I do?

You have to register with Fas, and usually pretty quickly. As well as the courses, Fas of course have the jobs on offer and give other services. Are you doing your course at night or, if doing it during the day, have you the okay for that from Social Welfare? Daytime courses which are not preapproved with SW will be seen as making you unavailable for work and therefore ineligible for JSA.

there is flexible study option with the course you can do it at night or during the day or there is a home study option. I do some hours during the day cos I havent a job and its basically something to do. i am still applying for jobs and available to take up work at any time as I can compelete the course outside of normal working hours in evenings or weekends. I know it doesnt affect my JSA cos it says on one of the course brochures clearly. So do u still think I should apply to fas only that I dont think they would have much I would be interested in?
