    Hi all,

I've decided to try and make up a nice fascinator/hair comb piece.. so now I need to find some feathers/wire/comb and any other little bits or pieces that could make it nice! Wedding coming up and I have no money to get a new dress etc. so I'm going to try and reivent a dress that I have!! Dress is red :D So I'm thinking either black, or maybe silver/light grey for the piece.

Any help/ideas or experience of making one appreciated!!!

Hickey's have bits and pieces such as feathers, beads etc. They're not cheap mind you...
Where are you based? There are hat-making courses around the country...There's one in Westport I'd love to go to when I have the money saved up: http://www.linasteinmillinery.com/workshops.html
Looks like a fun weekend away as well!

I am based in Dublin! I saw those weekends advertised on one of my googling missions, looks good alright but not an option on my budget at the moment!! I haven't had a spare minute to go into town and pick up bits and bobs yet. I think I need to sit down and figure out how to cover the comb part so as not to make it look clunky with the feathers/material attached. More googling I think!!

If you have any friends/relatives in Cork ask them to pop into Hickey's for you. They have lots of combs, feathers etc that might be of use for you.

Have you tried Beads and Bling in Temple bar? They do all kinds of beading and fascinator stuff. I'm fairly sure they even do a course on how to make them where you get to keep the piece at the end.

I made myself one of these for a wedding, I put it on a headband as my hair isn't suitable for a comb, but I got a red feather, not sure what it is but it kind of floats and moves, and just by itself was interesting enough. I had bought other feathers, but this one was perfect.

I can't stress how much you need to check out www.etsy.com more!
Seriously, even if you are making it yourself this website is amazing for inspiration, just go and search fascinators etc and you will be presented with some amazing pieces!

You can also order supplies from the site.
I've a few vintage chandelier beads I would be willing to post you a couple if you'd like them as a centre piece?

Good luck! Keep us informed :)
