    Hi all,

Think of upgrading to the 4.5
Bought an entry level Specialized Allez last year and really enjoyed it and I have an oportunity now to use the btw scheme to upgrade. So my two big steps up will be from the aluminium frame to carbon and from Sora to 105 groupset. What's the 105 like compared to sora? Also on bumpy Irish roads with even more potholes this year than last, is it wise getting a carbon frame? Will I notice much differene upgrading to this?

Also anyone see a good price anywhere for a 4.5?

    cheers,
    D

A good bike though you might kick yourself that you didnt get a five series Madone(stiffer BB, internal cabling etc.). 105 is considered the entry race level gruppo from Shimano. Lighter , more effective and easier to maintain than Sora.

Re price, haggle with the bike shops. I assume its about E2000 or a little more. The spec has dropped slightly, now full 105-no Ultegra rear derailleur and basic wheelset.

Are you hoping to trade your current bike?

yeah @ 2K. My local shop that I bought and got services off have said they will trade as they know it's clean as a whistle. My budget is tretching with this, so up to a 5 series is a bit too much

Go for it. You can always upgrade down the line. Just make sure they give you no lower 60% of your current bikes original price. Ideally 65%!

just upgraded from a trek 1.2 (same set up as your specialized) to a madone 4.5 last week and delighted with it.

the ride just felt a whole lot better - cant put my finger on why.

just a pity I cant upgrade the engine as easliy

thanks all, looking at the specialized tarmac elite too which is also 105 and carbon and same price but the Ridley Orion is slightly cheaper with ultegra groupset. only thing i dont like are the white handlebars on the 4.5 which will discolour very easily

Handlebar tape is a cheap consumable. Don't choose a bike based on the colour of the tape.
