Email broadcast, SMTP performance

    Hey Guys,
Using various clients [eg: phplist], installed on our own servers to broadcast large mailing lists, 20k-100k. Currently hosted with digiweb so using their smtp servers.
The send rate is significantly slow, even after setting up crons jobs, that handles threading and ommitts reading off the message everytime it sends.
Currently its taking 5 hours to send a 20k broadcast.

Whats the best solution for this, will a solely dedicated server and our own smtp on that increase performance? by how much?

    Thanks

We setup a special SMTP solution to handle this kind of thing for a lot of our clients. "Normal" SMTP servers might work, but it sounds like they're not.

An email to about 15k subscribers on one of our systems takes about 10 minutes (probably less tbh)
