changing insurance companies in a month or so. do i have to tell my new insurance company that i have a claim with my previous insurance company or can i just tell them that its my 1st time driving?

Will they find out if i dont tell them?
What are the penalties if any if i lie to them? Will they just not insure me?

the reason i ask is i just simply cant afford my new quote with my current insurance company.

anything i can do any proper advice please.

They will look for your No Claims Bonus which your current insurance company will issue you when your current policy is up for renewal. So if you had a claim this will show up. Not disclosing accurate information especially around a previous claim is not advised as they will eventually find out and your policy will be null and void instantly.

If you cannot afford the premium up front try and work out with the insurance company to pay it in monthly installments. Hell borrow from the credit union or bank if you must but giving false information will only end up bad for you in the long run.

You're in serious trouble if you don't disclose. Big time. When they find out about your claim (if you don't disclose it) your insurance will not just be unaffordable, it'll be astronomical. Ring around, check out some other companies, but please tell them about the claim. Otherwise you're only driving up the cost of insurance for the rest of us.

I have to totally agree with all the responses so far. If you think your quote is dear now, wait until you see what it would be if an insurer subsequently finds out about the claim and cancels your cover for misrepresentation.
Shop around, I agree most insurers want only the cream of business and will give you high quotes but there are some out there who say sh1t happens and will offer a reasonable figure
Go online yourself but also pick a broker to search for you. It's a free service that many overlook
