I got the same recently too actually. All was fine after a reboot though.

This problem seems quite common these days. Is it a Realtek set-up, and has that been updated recently?

A couple of times that I've downloaded Realtek updates and installed them, I've had that message, but only because it's defaulted to digital output, instead of speakers/headphones etc.

I'll have to find the link to the last thread that I remember seeing this on. I'm sure that it was on the Laptop forum.

Edit: Yes, laptop forum, although the OP of that thread never said whether or not the issue was resolved, but you might find some clues before you end up re-installing the soundcard/software/drivers.

Reinstall your sound drives from the cd/dvd that came with the laptop. Or go to the manufactures site, the downloads section will have the drivers there. Install and reboot and you should be fine.
