    Hi.

Seems like its mostly road bike users here. I've got a budget of about 650 for a trail bike. Any advice on what I should be able to get for that? So far a Trek Remedy has caught my eye. Should I be able to do better? Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks.

I have a fixation with Merlin bikes, best value ones I've seen.
A malt 1 has a full Deore groupset, including wheels and decent fork.

Easily the most well rounded bikes you'll get for around your budget.

I'm thinking of selling mine, not 100% definite but I just haven't been using it enough recently. It is a great bike though, I don't think anything else comes close in terms of value, probably the "planet-x" of hard tails.

    What have you got?

Gavin - Thanks but I hoping to get something mid/top end 2ndhand.

Aaf - Thanks but you don't seem to be giving much off it. I'd rather buy it new. What your asking for is out of my price range. Reckon I can get the Trek a good bit cheaper and that it's a better bike.

    Dirk V - Any details?

Fair enough, just be wary with second hand. You could get a great deal on a hardly every used mtb, or get a mtb which has gone through the ringer and has plenty of components that are close to failure/replacement, but looks good.

Look for wear on chains/cassettes/chainrings. Check rotors, brake pad thickness. Give the wheels a wiggle to make sure there's no play

Well, like I said I'm only really thinking about it, I'm not sure if it's definite. If you guys want details though:

    Merlin Malt 1.
Full Deore Groupset (except cranks are non-groupset Shimano).
    Deore disc brakes.
Mavic disc rims on Deore hubs, 1.95 Maxxis Tomahawk tyres.
    Ritchey finishing kit.
    Selle Italia Filante saddle.
Rockshox Tora SL fork with remote lockout.
Frame size is 16.5", at 5'10" it's pretty compact for me, good for trails I find but not as comfortable for road use.

Where u based?...I know where theres a good remedy for sale barely used.
They are quite heavy though and do you really need a full suspension bike?
One last thing...if you are employed you could most likely avail of the bike to work scheme and buy a new bike for say 1000€ for a cost of €500
    Marty.

martyc5674 - I'm based in Dublin. I had a hardtail but whenever I've had a go off a full sus I've really enjoyed it. I'm not a competitor really. Just like the fun of it. Where is this Remedy which you mentioned and for how much? Do you know what size and which modle it is? I'm 5'8.
