    Hi folks,

I currently claim jobseeker's allowance but I recently got accepted for a part-time job which entails working 1 hour a day for four days (mon-thurs).

Im worried ill lose my entire benefit for the week because im working four days and not three in the one week, even though its only for one hour a day. will this be the case?

You need to go in and inform them. It will just be reduced slightly afaik because it is only 4hrs work.

Thanks for the reply. I have informed them of the case, but until i send in my form detailing my part-time work hours i won't know what im losing. But if im automatically disqualified for JSA because Im classed as working four days ill be fairly distraught. :(

Three weekdays and a Sunday would be okay but working on 4 weekdays (even if just an hour per day) makes you ineligible for JA.

Yup, 1 hour counts as a full day. Madness, what happens is people stay on social welfare rather than doing the hours they could. Would save a fortune for the social welfare. Think of it, even someone doing 4 hrs work a week means 4 hrs less for them to pay, multiplied across the state. System is just not set up to do it unfortunately.
