The only tip i'd give you is have a secondary location planned on the mainland in case things don't pan out. It can be really difficult to find jobs as a seige mentality exists in a lot of places on Hawaii to a degree. Places will hire islanders over tourists and even mainland Americans. Also accommodation is expensive. I've met a lot of people who left Hawaii after a few weeks and went to San Diego, San Fran or some other place in California.
