Kinda looking forward to that movie. It is an amazing true story and Jim Carrey is great as a dramatic hours, but I remember hearing the film went on too long and it seems like Carrey is playing for laughs.

Ah well, guess we'll know soon enough.

i think carrey is very underrated as an actor he was amazing in the truman show and eternal sunshine so i have high hopes for this film but i must admit hes had the occasional stinker eg. the grinch and yes man

Does anyone else find Ewan Mcgregors American accents to be absolutely diabolical? It sounds so forced.

Yes. Very much. He's bad at accents in general (his Irish accent in Angels and Demons).

Looks like Roman Polanski agrees! (hey, it's accents, not morals)

Jesus, what a reaction. You are clearly putting words in his mouth and should be looking after your own conduct.

Saw it tonight, pretty underwhelmed. Couple of very funny moments (
"So does this mean I'm going to have to suck your cock?" "That'd be just great, thanks"
) but the whole thing is schlocky and a bit of a mess. It's like they decided to focus on -zOMG! - how totally groundbreaking it is to have a mainstream Hollywood comedy with two gay main characters, but totally forgot that they also needed to work on the plot. So there's lots of close-ups of Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey looking at each other meaningfully and 'zany' Carrey moments - but the story itself gets repetitive and, well, kinda dull. There's a good story here, but the film doesn't do it justice.

There's a bit of a twist near the end which is pretty easy to spot.

Also I know it's Jim Carrey so I shouldn't be expecting insightful social commentary or anything but dear god, there were way too many times when I cringed watching him and Ewan McGregor trying to portray gay men. It was like watching how black people were portrayed back in the early days of cinema ("Yessah masta, I's a good slave"). The over-the-top thing stopped being funny about halfway through. Interested to see what other people think about it.

The most positive thing about this film was that it killed any last remnants of my crush on Ewan McGregor. Thanks for that, ILYPM.

Yes man was brilliant much better than some of his older comedy stuff.

Jesus, was going to see this tonight as it got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and Esther on Movies and Booze on the Moncrief show said it was one of the films of the year for her.

Not sure what to do now.

Went to see this last night - was not impressed overall.

I would have left tbh, the first half of the film was a bit eh OTT for me but once the man on man action calmed down I relaxed and began to enjoy the film. It had subtance and a good story - Carey and McGregor played their roles well.

But my inability to become comfortable with the love between the two male characters restricted me to struggle through the film.

I knew what the story was going to be about going into the film but the trailers etc marketed this film to be a comedy which it was not! If it was marketed differently perhaps I would not have gone...

McGregor pisses me off at the best of times.

    Don't rate him at all.

    Bland as hell.

Saw it, how they made such a poor film out of such an amazing story is beyond me. Probably worked better as the book. Too, much stuff to fit in in the short run time-the rejection of one life the beginning of another, the decent into a life of crime-love stories-characterization-some of the crimes and schemes themselves would have taken months and years they were so big and it's hard to get a sense of that in a montage. It was a bit all over the place. Tone wise it seemed to be going for a similar one to Men Who Stare At Goats and failed.

First film I've been to in a long time where at least 12 people walked out (and most walked with less than half an hour to go, so they were more bored than offended).

Wasn't crazy about it myself, but it had it's moments.
I'd find it hard to recommend, though.

didnt enjoy it much at all. Trailer marked it as a comedy, its not.

the only laugh in the whole movie was
    the lawyer joke montage

    wouldnt recommend

I Love You, Phillip Morris is making a convincing case for itself as one of the most cursed movies of all time. Originally screened at Sundance in January 2009, the indie comedy starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor was scheduled to be released this year in February… then in March, then April 30, then July 30, and now it won’t even make that summer release date due to a court injunction. In April, the French movie studio EuropaCorp, which produced the film, sued indie distributor Consolidated Pictures Group. EuropaCorp claimed that Consolidated had failed to pay a $3 million advance for the movie’s U.S. distribution rights. And now, according to Reuters, a California judge has issued a preliminary injunction preventing the movie’s release until the dispute is settled in arbitration. Consolidated is reportedly targeting October as a new potential release date.
