Why does it take so long to release a patch?

surely someone with connections to IW plays MW2 and has seen the care-package glitch. I assume with a bit of effort a patch could be released in a day , not weeks . Thumbs down for CoD.

I have couple of fairly bleak queries on this, considering a fix on a lot of these issues could be done with a single command or line of code somewhere.

    1. Whats in it for IW? - they already have your money and the people that are having a ball cheating/glitching have paid the same amount as the legit gamers.

    2. Who is to say they are not using all resources on some other IP.

    3. Who is to say they are waiting for DLC before the bother working on another patch.

    4. IW have never been prompt with patching/support/community interaction - why would we expect any different?

Ultimately, would it make business sense to invest in supporting a product? - (aside from DLC). Given the Bobby Koticks' track record id say IW's resources are already busy beavering away and are 33-50% of the way through some other game.

Microsoft and Sony have to assess the patches before they're released, it takes Microsoft much longer than Sony. Infinity Ward actually get them out pretty quickly. And I'm not sure if you know, but there was actually two differenct care package glitches, one was patched, on the PS3 anyway and then a new one arose.

    Because they're incompetent, obviously.

sony have to certify them first

Also software programming is complex.Changing a few line of code can have a serious knock on effect.Probably why the sony/microsoft have to check the patches.

Still a pain in the hole though waiting for a patch all the same

The PC gets patched pretty quick, but then they dont need a 3rd party company to test the patches.

yeuk, i hate the way every one blames IW for literally everything that happens dead.gif

Even IF they had delivered a Beta version, some nerdy geeky hacker with no life would come up with a glitch.
Its a community problem. You have hackers who are sad enough to find glitches and you have more saddos who exploit the glitch.
IW have always been very fast in rectifying the glitches. The current one on XBox, the patch was made over 3 weeks ago but Microsoft are the ones sitting on it,and before someone blames MS they are quality checking it ,making sure it wont fcuk anything else up.

If you're looking for someone to blame, blame the idiots within the community who are fcuking up everyone elses enjoyment

Totally agree. Alot of the problems arise from selfish assholes intent on ruining the game for everybody else. I think the solution to alot of these types of problems lays with giving the players more control over who plays. A simple voting system like in left 4 dead which allows players to vote on booting a player form a game would be ideal for mw2, if it worked in such a way that a cheater could be identified by a player, others are informed and then they can vote to kick the cheater. Of course such a solution could also raise a tonne of other problems but I think if a guy was constantly booted from games he wouldn't be long about playing a normal cheat free game.

Only solution to that is to remove tactical insertion from the game I'd suggest.

Or for all normal people to attack the boosters every single time they do it!!! :D
