Just got notification of an offense where I was supposed to have broken a red light (it was amber). I want to appeal this in court. Whats the best way about this? Do I send in a letter to the Garda in charge of the local stn, or just leave it until it gets to court. It will be my word against the Gardas if it comes to it and in that case would the judge side with the Garda?

If you don't accept the fixed fine notice you just don't pay it and await the summons.

Who the judge believes is up to him/herself, and the evidence given before him/her.

Cheers, I appreciate that, I was just wondering though that if I sent a letter to the Garda Stn, it might show that I had acknokledged that I recieved the notice and that I wanted to appeal it. I dont want to be faced with a situation that once I dont pay within the period, I then get smacked with additional points.

Once you "ignore" the fixed penalty notice, the summons will automatically issue and if convicted, the additional points will be added automatically. the Judge has no control over the points.

Have you anyone who can bolster your evidence that the light was amber and not red!

The points on payment within time are always less than the points if convicted in court.
