I purchased a van privately over two weeks ago and the vehicle registration form hasn't been posted out to me yet. Is this normal?

Who do I contact to see if the vehicle is now registered in my name? (I don't want an automated answering service)

Go onto the motor tax website and look for the Transaction process section. Just put in the reg number of the van there and it will tell you all you need to know.

It took over a month for mine to arrive. Best bet is just to keep an eye on the motortax site. You will then be able to see when it gets changed over.

They're dog slow up there. The weird thing is that Dealers can do change of ownerships online now, so it should have sped things up for the public, but it's still as dragged out as ever.

You should have got it by now.
If you bought the car from a dealer phone them to chase it up, or else call the Shannon office on 061-365033.

The annoying this is, you will have to pay tax for the month of January despite you not having the form

If you haven't received it after 4 weeks they'll issue you a new one for free. If you haven't got it by the end of next week you should follow it up.

Tax is up at the end of March / Doe end of May which isn't too bad.

The Credit Union are the ones haunting me for the registration book, as proof of purchase of a loan I took out for it. A new policy that they seem to have now developed.

Whenever I think of people having problems with Shannon this comes to mind. I was waiting 2 months last time btw

Mental. I'd tell the credit union to feck off, or drive the car to them and offer them a spin around the car park. They've no right to ask for a copy of the ownership documents for your car. Purely from a security point of view - they shouldn't be asking for it.

They only want proof that a vehicle was purchased as on my loan proposal form. Probably also as a security if the loan was ever defaulted.

They still have no right to ask for a copy of the ownership documents of your car. All it takes is one malicious employee to clone your car afterwards - and it should be explained to them that way.

Maybe it should be an issue brought up with them.

I could see some guy in an office trying to justify his position making up these silly rules, they are probably just tightening up their financial belts like the rest of them.

As If I was going to be a runner having been with them over 10 years and already having more than 50% of what I took out in my savings as collateral against the loan.

New jeep registered for the first time on the second of January. Still haven't received the registration cert.

With less new registrations this year you would imagine the service would be a bit quicker.

Do they bill you for motor tax straight after sending out the vehicle reg cert? (they did 7 yrs ago when I last changed car!)

My mam was waiting ages for the vehicle reg cert, it eventually came and is now waiting 2 weeks for the motor tax bill to come out. Does she have to go into their office to get the car taxed?

Shannon seems to have no system in place, sometimes reg certs come in a a few days and other times it takes weeks.
A phone call to them always seems to speed up the process.

I tried calling them yesterday and ended up in circles with one of these automated voice activated answering machines. It looks as if they have made some serious recessionary cutbacks of personnel in this department.

I remember the change of address on my VLC took a few weeks - apparently the first one got lost in the post.

Bring back the good auld days when you could walk into any tax office with the brown tax book and get it changed over at the counter.
Those books were full of information compared to the current ones.

That's dead right. All the banks should just give money to whoever want's it, no questions asked.... oh no, wait a minute....

On topic, I've found the dealers are often what slows things. Once the dealer uploaded the info (three week later!) I got the cert within two weeks.
