Let me start somewhere now... Right... Well, I haven't done my Junior yet but I am freaking out about the results I might get because it affects the level which I can do next year, which affects my LEAVING! I am a C/B average student and, to be honest, did not put much effort in 1st and 2nd year.
Now I don't know what to do. My parents won't be happy with my results nor will I. I want to get into a certain college course which requires like 515 points. I DON'T KNOW HOW I AM GOING TO ACHIEVE IT?!
Help me please! How do I raise the bar from a C/B to B/A?
Trust me, I am trying to study, But I DONT know what's happening :(

Don't push yourself too much. You learn a lot more in 30 mins relaxed study than 2 hours cramming. Start paying more attention and any extra info the teacher mentions, write in short hand in the margin of the text book. I find the paying attention part the most essential part of my learning. If i hear someone else saying it, it tends to stick. Then for tests, a quick reread of the pages and it all comes back to me.

I study by reading it out loud. Find your study type - visual, oral, written etc and then use that. Start your homework whenever you get home and have dinner. Don't go straight to watching tv cause then you'll never go. I do the hardest and the learning work first and then try do a bit of study. I get my revision book mostly and resay it in my own words and then test myself sort of. At the end of each chapter I glance over it to see if I remember it. I use flash cards (coloured :D) for things that are long or that I find difficult remembering.
Just think, it's only for a few months and then you're free and you'll get what you want.

The grades in your Junior Cert matter very little when it comes to what level you do in leaving - well obviously if you're doing pass it will BUT anyway, there's hardly any subject that I do that has anything to do with junior stuff - I missed most of 2nd and 3rd year anyway ^_^
Try not to stress about it, you'll end up making yourself sick, and then you'll miss school and...you see where I'm going with this?
And points can change ALOT in 3 years! So do try not to worry!

Well if you are a B/C student is suppose if some of the Junior Cert results dont go your way you can appeal them? Obviously though if you get all F's i doubt you will be doing honours for the leaving:p

Just focus on your Junior Cert now and try and do your best.

If your looking at 515 points and your averaging B/Cs now (As long as you get predominately Bs and Cs) it shouldn't be impossible if you study.

Just focus on your JC. Don't go overboard on the study though because despite what you might think now the test is meaningless.

They really don't have much of an effect on your Leaving. While it's true, that if you do pass JC maths, or English, you'll probably be doing pass in the Leaving. This is why it's good to not be lazy and give all the subjects a go at honours, unless you're almost certain you'll fail at honours.

In the Leaving Cert, remember it's only your top 6 subjects that are counted, so if you do 7 subjects and 1 pass you can still get 600 points.

For the rest of JC subjects, like business for example, and all the sciences, start off with a completely new course, no prior knowledge really needed (although it helps).

Business definitley but if you try and do any of the three sciences without having done JC science you are going to have a seriously hard time.

I disagree. I missed the majority of second and third year, which resulted in me having very little of the junior science course. I'm now doing biology, chemistry and physics, and doing very well in them.

Really, the only thing that could make a difference is Maths and possibly the languages. After that all the rest can be taking up fresh in 5th year.

I disagree. In particular, Biology could be taken without any experience of having done science before. Doing Science for the JC would obviously be a help, but certainly isn't necessary!

    P.S. I like your signature!
