Norton Anti Virus Automatic Renewal for Laptop

Okay so I have an email in this morning from Norton saying my anti-virus subscription is due for automatic renewal early March. Now I've been reading on here from time to time that Norton is notorious for slowing things up particularly on laptops. I am having speed/response issues with my laptop and Norton kept cropping up as a possible reason why.

Should I go for with a different anti-virus package? And if so with whom?

Any thoughts, recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If I hadn't got CA Internet Security Suite free for a year after a beta-test, I'd go with Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and seems to be getting good reviews.

I've installed it on a couple of other PCs and no-one's having any problems with it.

The CA one that I'm using is too much like hard work, but not as bad as the last time that I used Norton.

Thanks ejmaztec. Best to download MSE before I uninstall my Norton?

Download it, disconnect from internet, uninstall norton, install MSE, reconnect to internet, happy days.

actually, i use a program called revouninstaller to do my uninstalling, because it cleans up the registry and everything after you uninstall something. it also creates a restore point before doing anything. its free and works a charm.

MSE will probably dig you out of it. A couple of weeks ago, it found and nuked a trojan in one of my daughters' laptops. She was using AVG but that program hadn't stopped the trojan from causing mayhem.

I'd already read some consumer reports that MSE had found more viruses than some paid-for programs.

Check the price of the renewal of Norton!
I posted this on their forum

Re: Why should I renew my subscription?? N360
Yes, I was wondering that "Norton 360 Subscription Renewal £64.99"
I only paid £30 for it a year ago. A quick Google and
    http://www.antivirus-outlet.info/norton-360.html £29.99, 2 years £44.99
The simple answer is DONT. Its a total ripoff
A pity we're not protected from "Norton" isnt it?

Norton is automatically renewing my Antivirus. (for a laptop i no longer own!). I only found this out because I checked my Visa Statement.
(The email notification ironically enough was put into my Spam box!).
I want a refund, the email says I can up to 60 days, but phone no.'s listed are for US, Australia and Hong Kong.
You can't request a refund via their website or email according to their very unhelpful website.
    Anyone come across this before?
If anyone has a phone no. for Europe even that would be a great help.
    Please.
