iPhone nobbled features

Bought an iPhone recently and am discovering a lot of the features are nobbled including

    Bluetooth.
Wireless via WPA encryption and very unreliable generally - I find I have to constantly reconnct to known networks.
    Movies via iTunes

In addition I find outgoing email via smtp.02.ie very hit and miss in terms of actually sending an email for me.

Also my local Bitbuzz connection no longer broadcasts so obviously the owners of the local shop are sick of people using their internet and not buying coffee.

All in all while the interface is excellent the full potential of the thing is well below where it could be. I guess you need to jailbreak it to realise this potential - would that be correct?

Bluetooth was crippled from the start
I find my wireless performance very reliable, and automically reconnects to places I have been before.
Movies via iTunes (or lack of) is an Apple problem in general - not just iPhone.
I find sending emails fine, but I'm with VF. Can be slow depending on the 3G reception (or lack of)
Bitbuzz problem should be reported to O2 - Doesn't seem like an iPhone problem, rather a Bitbuzz problem. I can't see Bitbuzz operators being allowed to unilaterally decide to switch off their service.

I don't think jailbreaking helps with anything you have here.

Whats the outgoing mail server on Vodafone? I might give it a try.

As I have said so many times before, it's all about context.

Think about it - the iPhone was designed in the US who are light years behind Europe/Japan in terms of mobile technology. When the iPhone was released, you can be sure a good percentage of US consumers only used Bluetooth for audio accessories (those that actually heard of it), you can also be fairly sure a camera wasn't important to them, plus they possibly never heard of MMS. And so on.

The iPhone is a media player that can also make phonecalls and run programs. If you think of it that way, as in the phone features are really an afterthought, then the phone begins to make sense.

Also, the movies thing is nothing to do with the iPhone or Apple, it's the studios putting restrictions on who can/can not purchase their films. If Apple could sell all films all over the world, don't you think they would?

You'd need to have a VF account?

Agreed same here. I had an issue connecting originally but now its very good! sometimes you have to retry stuff like youtube and safari but you get there in the end!

    Great device tbh!
