    hi,
    i will probably be taking photos at a running race soon.
    as there will probably be 2000+ photos taken i was wondering is there any program or utility that would allow me to automatically detect the numbers from the runners number and then file the photos.

    I don't know of one.
    BUT... they can scan your car reg and put your number to your toll fee, my computer doesn't need a password because it can "see" my face, and I did work on an application that used OCR (Optical Character Recognition) so I know it can be done. Point being I'm sure there is one out there as this problem is tackled frequently.

    Failing that you'll find one resonably, considering price etc, you'll need a meta-data editor that'll allow you to quickly tag the number of each photo rather pronto. If all else fails I might have an app that I can fairly quickly alter for this purpose.
