Resetting 3com baseline 2916 switch

Hello fellow Techies,

I have a problem with a 3com baseline 2916 switch. I need to reset it to factory default settings ....This switch is old stock that I would like to recycle. It was in use as a 3rd party network system and as this system has had its hardware up dated. These switches have been made redundant. I would like to recycle them for use on another network system I'm rolling out .
I have no login to do so. I have read the user manual and the default username is usually Admin But i have no password
Does any body know of a way to reset this switch with out having to log in to it ....Like a reset button or shorting pins out

This is for a 2948, but I'm guessing it should also work for the 2916.

Fix :
The resetting of the password requires the installation of a console cable to the console port.

Be sure the terminal emulator program is set to VT-100 management using compatible, 38400 baud rate, no parity, 8 data bits and Console connection one stop bit.
Use the included cable, or be sure that the pin-out complies with a standard null-modem cable
Once the cable is connected, reboot the switch. Type a Ctrl/C until you enter the failsafe mode. This will be denoted with the prompt: "CFE>"

At the prompt execute the following commands:
CFE> passwrd
CFE> reset -sysreset

At this point the password has been reset.

Thanks for your quick reply...

I can't seem to get it to enter the CFE prompt > Have tried the ctrl c as it reboots. but no joy I'll keep at it though trying different keyboard shortcuts

When I've had to do similar things in the past with other hardware makes, I've found the thing to do is to switch the thing on and then to immediately furiously hammer on the Ctrl-C, Ctrl-D, Break or whatever. The time window during which the appropriate key is recognized seems to be quite narrow in many cases, so you need to make sure you keep on hitting it. Good luck, and if it doesn't work, I guess the only other option is to contact 3Com.

BTW I assume that the console cable is OK, and that once you (presumably) get to the normal CLI prompt that it works as expected?
