    Hi all,

Do any of you know where to buy clothes in Vietnam? I do not mean tailored suits, I mean clothes that mostly resemble clothes back home; jeans, t-shirts, tops, etc.

Have any of you went shopping in Vietnam? Is it good value/quality? I am in Hanoi but am travelling down south later.

    Thanks!
    Walrus

I was in Hanoi recently and it seems that there is a street for t-shirts, a street for jeans, a street for shoes and so on. There are a lot of these streets not far from the water puppet theater. The area around there is small enough and after a short stroll you should stumble across them.

Thanks darrenh. I came across a good shopping centre today, the sweat dripping off me. I'll have a look at the streets near the puppet theatre soon.

Darren's bang on the money there.

If you're looking at a map, the markets are to the north east of the lake in the old town.

Make sure you go to Bia Hoi corner at night time. Cheapes beer you will ever drink. About 16 cents for a small glass. Feels gas going up for a round for 7 people and paying a euro.

Besides the cheapness, the atmosphere is good. Everyone sits on plastic chairs on the footpath while crowds walk by. Good times.

And regarding travelling down through Vietnam, if you're stuck for time, spend more time in Hoi An than in Hue. Hoi An was my favourite place in Vietnam. Beautifully lit up at night. And whatever else, don't forget that there's a lovely beach about a 20 mins push bike ride from town. A lot of people go there without realising it. Nice beach.

And go up to Marble Mountain in Hoi An. Just pay a motorbike taxi to bring you up and offer to pay him extra if he shows you inside the caves. And before you employ one, ask if they'll show you to the top. Stunning views of the Vietnam coast including the beach where the first Americans landed for the war.

Ah, The Bia Hoi's..... The memories. How happy I was to sit on a 12inch high plastic stool. Should have Bia Hoi's here too.
