Don't they all look really happy.

Banking took up much of the discussion on VB Tonight yet not one mention of BOSI letting go of nearly 800 staff and closing down their Halifax branches across the country. A quick mention of it in the papers, but VB seem more interested and his Dance Hall days. Main discussion was George Lee and FG and Labour's Compatibility.

But hey it's nothing to do with editorial interferance and VB Tonight isn't a Current Affairs show.

Yes, it was an obvious case of self censorship. A complaint to the broadcasting authority would be appropriate. They might be inclined to do nothing but, as with 'play tv', they cannot ignore a large volume of complaints.

Normally a fan of the above, i was disappointed at the lack of any mention of the closure of Bank of Scotland Ireland's retail banking division, i suppose there argument will be the FG/George Lee saga was top of the news agenda and to be honest i felt it was, seems like we as a society have almost become immune to such savage job losses. This news is by no means the last were going to hear about bank job losses and the fun has yet to begin with the debacle that NAMA is going to be.

I have nothing againist VB or the Tonight show. But EU and Irish laws specifically suggested that Current Affairs programmes not be sponsored and that sponsors not provide any editorial bias to any programme that they sponsor (even with product placement).

The show was discussing NAMA something not in the news and yet VB didn't care to mention BOSI in relation to a 3rd banking force or a 3rd Banking force. Now in saying that neither did any of his guests.

IMO GLEE and FG was yesterdays news, both TV3 and RTÉ were running with BOSI, even the news papers ran mainly with BOSI on their frontpage.

I will look again tonight to see if BOSI is mention if UNITE or the CEO of BOSI will appear on the show.

Yes i agree but i recall TV3 claiming this show is not a current affairs program, i also see drive time on radio 1 is now sponsored so not sure whats going on, what is irritating is the nonsense surrounding, when tonight with Vincent Brown takes their advert breaks, does anyone actually take note of adverts on TV generally and more to the point at that hour of the night. It is an excellent program, in fact the only one i watch on what is otherwise a dreadful station, Plastic presenters, Robotic reporters (Brian o Donavon)and that ghastly cosmetic surgery show with that creepy surgeon and cringing presenter all topped off with the infamous Play TV (why, why o why?)

TV3 can claim what they like. You know that they claim Xpose is part of the Public Service commitment.

The reason they claim that VB Tonight isn't current affairs is because it isn't allowed be a CA show, hence when they got the sponsorship deal, news moved to before Nightly News and rename it Tonight.

As for Radio 1 unfortunately they don't have the same rules on Radio. The Last Word, Hook etc can all have sponsors however on TV it is a different story.

I don't see how it could be in their interest to indulge in self censorship on this issue.

BOSI is pulling out of the country so they can say almost anything they wanted about BOSI!

What would the bank do? Pull their sponsorship of the programme?rolleyes.gif

Why didn't they. Unless the show is pre-recorded. But that wouldn't explain the papers reporting on BOSI?

Anyway the CEO of TV3 is a Director of BOSI.
