Do you think we will all regret using mobile phones, computers etc in the future. There must be over 70% of people using computers for 2-3 hours each day.

This is without including people who work with computer monitors for 8 hours everyday. This cant be good for our eyes!

We all use mobile phones, they are with us all the time.Whats the story with radiation off these phones.

Well fellow bordsies(thats kinda gay:rolleyes:) do ye think we may well pay for the use of modern technology in the future? We are the first to use these and maybe the next generation will learn from our mistakes and laugh at us with our eyesite problems etc.

No, technology in the future will be free.

I guess nobody is sure, it may or may not have an adverse effect on our species. Either way, I don't care too much :)

With it we'll develop new technologys (such as laser eye surgury) etc which will allow people deal with some issues like this.

We'll also use some of the old reliables (going outside for fresh air or grabbing a cup of coffee) to get a break from the PC every now and again.

    Once

    -the sun blows up
    -oil runs out
-Iran/Iraq/North Korea/USA/whoever nukes us to bits

and the world ends, we won't have to worry about the future, now will we?:(

I'm using a friend as my test subject. He's on his mobile for what seems like 10 hours a day.
I'll post the results here in 30 years.
    Stay tuned.

Who cares. China are taking over the world. Even the interwebz can't stop them!

Whats the story with radiation off these phones.

There's no conclusive evidence of harmful levels of radiation given off by mobiles.
China are taking over the world.

    Never going to happen.

    Definetly yes,

The amount of time people spend sitting down in front of a computer is not very good for the back. If you look at running times from 20 years ago for average runners in road races in Ireland they are a lot better than now, as people werent sitting down for 8 hours a day at computers and were a lot more active for simple things such as walking to post a letter. Sure now ya hardly have a reason to get up to send a letter or get a file, as everything is right in front of ya.

Hopefully people will leran and start to use those chairs for kneeling on etc to prevent back problems

People used to have the same concerns about television

Whats the story with radiation from lightbults, radiators (the clue is in the neme), That big bright yellow thing in the sky (you might have heard of it), the ground, electrical wiring, your own body.....................

I'd rather live to 85 with dodgy eyesight due to modern technology than to die at 35 with perfect eyesight in a world without the benefits of modern technology.

I'm not sure, but is there actually scientific evidence reading a computer screen (with safe brightness, and normal sized print) is bad for your eyes?

As for mobile phones, I have a funny feeling down the line we're gonna be sorry alright. :-/ I get a headache if I talk on one for more than 30 minutes, like alot of people. They can't be good.

Well this is exactly what Im getting at,since we're the first to use these technologies we will be the evidence in 20 years of the affects of tis stuff.

    Scientific studies say other wise.

Radiators use convection, not radiation, to heat up the room. The warm convection currents of air circulate around a room, heating it up.

We'll probably see some consequences in a few decades, but I doubt it's going to be anything serious. It's like when the television was invented. We all became more sedentary, ate more, etc... Computers are just replacing TVs as the cause of those problems. Besides, no one will be around after 2012...:pac:

Radiators use a combination of convection, radiation and conduction just like any other heating device. Convection my be predominant but just like any body whose termperature is above 0 K there is some radiation

The original point is in reference to electromagnetic radiation as opposed to to thermal radiation.

thermal radiation IS (a form of) electromagnetic radiation

If youre going to use big words its usually a good idea to understand what they mean.

    I have 20/20 vision.

I've watched telly/played computer games/used computers since I can remember and my eyes are still fine. Though, I think music players and mobiles have damaged my hearing.

There are entire fields of study that revolve around HCI for the very reason. Back when this stuff all became mass marketed there was rarely much thought to how it would all work out, or, things were done the way they were for completely seperate reasons: look at the Typewriter and the QWERTY layout. All down to a mechanical problem that was engineered to reduce key jams. Even though in true ergonomics the modern keyboard really should be in a new layout: DVORAK

More and more, new devices are being designed with serious HCI considerations. New VR and Haptic Equipment, especially.

Cell Phone Radiation is all bollox, by the way. And we no longer used CRT Monitors so really the majority of eye issues have been sidestepped.

My vision is fecked, and I think it's from sitting about one foot away from the TV watching Dragonball Z every day for months. Totally worth it.
