A mini magazine came with the eircom phone bill today. One section of it was about interesting websites. This is what they had to say about boards.ie:
Boards.ie
There was a time when you literally had to be a rocket scientist to use an Internet bulletin board, but now they're open to everybody. Boards.ie is easily the biggest collection of bulletin boards for people living in Ireland. It suffers at times from overly fussy moderating but theres an awful lot of good - and often very helpful - chat to be found there too.
OK, so I know the bulk of it is good, but would you agree with eircom in saying that boards suffers from too much moderating???

P.S. Mods, this is not my opinion, it is just an idea a heard which I am putting out for discussion. ;)

Folks, while it was a moderator decision to lock this thread, I think it's important that I let you know that I was in touch with eircom directly about this (I have a good relationship with the people who work in Head Office), and I got an email from Aoife in their Press Office yesterday afternoon:
Hi Darragh,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

eircom holds Boards.ie in the highest regard and we sincerely apologise for any offence that the reference in this article may have caused you or the volunteer moderators at Boards.ie.

The publication that featured the article is an eircom broadband customer magazine. The article in question was prepared by a third party agency and was featured on a dedicated page called “the wonderfully wacky world wide web”, which is designed to provide an independent overview of popular websites.

There was no intention on the part of eircom or the third party agency to negatively portray Boards.ie and I believe this is evidenced in the overall positive tone of the piece.

We genuinely recognise the value in moderating and understand the difficult work that you and your volunteer moderators do. eircom has a good relationship with Boards.ie and we look forward to continuing that good working relationship with the team at Boards.ie.

Kind regards,

Aoife Donohoe
Press Officer
eircom

Having worked in large organisations like eircom, I know that sometimes the "marketing" material doesn't get passed by everyone - it's just too big. I sincerely doubt that the entity that is eircom wanted to intentionally cause offence or alienate the moderators here, and I, for one, am happy with their answer.

Thanks though for bringing it to our attention - that is appreciated :)

Darragh
