Ankle Brace

    Hi all,
Anyone got any experience of running with anything like, www.bwmed.net/images/AirLiteAnkleSupport.jpg

    or

    http://www.jumpusa.com/anklex.jpg

A previous injury which tore the ligament from the bone of my ankle and causes consistant sprains means i'm only really safe on roads and paths (without cracks!!) and treadmills. i'd love to do some trail running without fear of going over on it and being out of training for 3+ weeks with it.
I'm using a Vulkan ankle support at the moment but i wouldn't trust it to keep me injury free.
I'd really appreciate anyone who's got similar experience and what they've found useful?
I'm not looking for medical advice, just product reviews or recommendation of products!
    Thanks a lot!

After tearing a ligament in my knee I was wondering about then getting some kind of support for it when going back skiing again afterwards. I was told that I'd be better off without anything though. If I was healed then it would be irrelavent to wear a support, if I wasn't healed then it would hurt and I should stop.

Hiya Robinph, what's happened with the ankle is that the ligament has actually torn off the bone, which i was told at the time couldn't be reset. It means i can pull my left foot over almost 90 degrees, as opposed to my right foot (and all normal feet!) where the ligament is attached to the bone and you just can't pull it over that far.
    I hope that makes sense...!
It's like being double jointed but in a way that really fks u over!

Have just been told exactly the same thing as you and was googling looking for advice. Did you make any progress on finding a suitable support?

If you've an avulsion (pulled off the bone as opposed to a tear or a rupture) you really need to get the ligament re-attached. You can prob get a small operation.

Also look at the laser centre, hume street. I was skeptical at first but Dr Leahy used laser and fixed a partial avulsion of my biceps femoris tendon. Im not sure if a full avulsion can be fixed that way but no harm in e-mailing them.

Has anybody bought a mueller ankle brace in Ireland extra extra small?
Visited any major sports shop I could think of today in Dublin and several chemists and rang about.
The physioroom.com site seems to be faulty at the moment and cannot source it elsewhere on web.
I really need this so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
