Hi. I got a call today from a Garda station to tell me my car was parked in a disabled spot. At the time it was being used by my brother who was in hospitial. I was happy to get the phone call instead of a ticket. I was just wondering where the Garda got my mobile number. Was it a nice officer who went to slot of trouble to let me know or is that kind of info easy for Garda to get quickly if they want

If you have reported something in the past or have been the victim of crime then you would have given a contact number. This is recorded on PULSE (our wonderful computer system). So once the reg was checked and the owners details come up they just cross reference that with the details already on the system and presto, A call to you informing you that your brother is a muppet for parking in a disabled bay. Unless he had a disabled parking badge then he shouldn't be there, regardless of going to hospital or not. (Obviously if it was something serious enough that parking was not the priority then I retract that comment.)

I take great pleasure in giving out those tickets.

I noticed recently when renewing my motor tax that my phone no. is recorded on the motor tax system.

Of course same rules dont apply to Gardai who park inappropriately as a matter of course on footpaths, double-yellow lines, etc. Maybe leave parking enforcement to the traffic wardens.

Well at some time you happen to be unfortunate enough to be a victim of crime and you see the patrol car passing you by on blue lights and sirens and you start cursing them for not stopping....... Its because they are looking for a nice parking space, instead of what most members usually do which is get out and give assistance to the victim of crime as fast as they can instead of worrying about how the transport is parked........ You cant have it both ways!!!

Ah so many emergency calls, every single morning for hours and hours where I live. I didn't realise I lived in such an accident-prone, crime-ridden part of the city.
