What is the going rate for a freelance article, or a freelance Promo pack for a band/event?

An article for what? Where? When? How long?

And what is a freelance promo pack?

I'm just asking for the general price for freelance these days, I have been told 60 euro for a good quality article and I have been getting between that and 80. A promo pack is a collection of reviews and an overview of a band or event that is sent out to clients and other journalist.

Everywhere has different rates and some offer flat fees while others pay per-word.

Per-word rates can vary wildly from place to place, going from a few cent per word up (the best I've gotten in Ireland is around the 40c mark - I've heard of higher offered by major UK and US publications) - after that the more words you're commissioned for the more you get, of course.

Flat rates can be equally varied and can also be good or bad value depending on how much you're writing.

Being any more specific than that, as monument suggests, would require an idea of where you're looking to write and what you're looking to do for them (feature, news story etc.)

Average I've seen is about 20c a word, more if it's a good exclusive, less if it's for a trade mag

What are you selling ? News, features, sport? Which publications? There is huge variation.
