I'm guessing County Louth??? I'd like it to be Ballybunion though.

Im gonna guess County Louth on account that I thought they were having the Irish Open for 2 years but only held it for one year (last year) so maybe they pulled out of the second year and opted to host the Walker Cup instead. Pure guess tho.

Royal Dublin hopefully. Cos I live beside it! Also it has hosted Irish Opens and Irish Amateurs in the past. Probably a much better test of golf than Co. Louth too.....

Would like to see it in Ballybunion, but id say it will be in Co. Louth.

At a guess I would say Royal Dublin but have a sneaking suspicion it could be Ballybunion

A links and the capital makes sense so i would suggest either royal dublin or portmarnock.

    I would say Rosses Point.

Ha ha i was waiting for someone to lose the rag........

    Rosses point it is.

I would have preferred it to go to lahinch tbh.

Interesting, I would have put it towards the bottom or where I thought their prefernce would be, not because of quality, but perhaps for history, a little prestige and mainly logistics.

    Great course though!

Wouldnt agree with that. Out of the courses on that list id say Royal Dublin is the weakest there. I think the course lives off its past glories a bit too much. Look at the links that have been built in this country in recent times - European Club, Glasheady, Sandy Hills etc. Id rather play one round on any of them than 100 at Royal Dublin. Also from a spectators point of view for such an event like the Walker Cup it has very few vantage points on account of it being so flat. What I do like about the place though is the greens. They are fantastic.

Getting back to it, great to hear its gone to Rosses Point. Its a great course with an extemely tough finishing stretch so it should provide us with plenty of entertainment.

i was a good bit off the mark:D fair play to rosses point, a great course and from being up to the west is very spectator friendly. will defintely try and go to it, hopefully there will be a few irish to cheer on

Have you played Royal Dublin since their major changes? I think now its is a really difficult but fair golf course. They've made dramatic improvements to it and i believe now its a very different animal then it was 5/6 years ago.

Saying that, Rosses point is a deserving host. A quality golf course.

Great news but i doubt it is true for logistical reasons - nearest hotel is 3 miles away. Rosses is hosting the home internationals next year and is a great test.

Earliest it can be here is 2015.

Yea I last played it last year. Perhaps im being a bit unfair because personally I prefer links courses that have elevation changes and big dunes and in that respect I find the place a little bland. Of course thats not to say its not a hard or fair test but the few times ive played it ive always played close to handicap which doesnt happen so much on other links. Im sure under tournament conditions things would be a lot different and of course when the wind is up im sure its as tough as any course. Through sheer luck any time ive played there the weather has been ok which has probably influenced my view on its toughness.

Have to agree with Paulusmaximus on Royal Dublin, the changes they have made are excellent. While relatively flat compared to others, bland is not a word I would use to describe it.

Not sure what stakes you've payed off but off the backs it is a beast of a course, even on a relatively calm day.

Jaysus I know the west is fairly backward, but I would have thought even Sligo would have cars by now.
When the IO was on in Ballybunion most of the pros stayed in Killarney(50 mins drive) and Kenmare(80 mins drive) and some some even travelled by helicopter believe it or not.

i have spoken to a good few members and a past captain (2008) of rosses point since this thread started and they have heard nothing about this - unless they are covering it up.

Royal Lytham and St. Annes will host it in 2015.
