    Hey,

I'm looking to improve the stock take procedure for our company.

Currently, we have a pretty old fashioned system, where everything is counted manually.

Anyone recommend any company's with stock-take scanners etc...?

Or maybe it just ends up being just as time-consuming?

    Thanks

Your line of business may be helpful so people can grasp the scale of what a stock take involves for you.

but you still have to physically count everything don't you?

Yes .They came in and counted everything .Took about four hours. They then got me to spot check a few items and then downloaded the lot.The reports they provided highlighted some areas that needed attention and I got the GP on each item .My accountant tells me its the best thing I ever did .Staff are more aware and alert now also.I actually got them on a weekend when I was closed so the stocktake was really 100% accurate.I guess we need this service now to stay on top of our game .The directors were there themselves to supervise .They actually told me I only needed this service once a month and then go to every quarter. So not a huge expense for what I got in return. There are a few people you can go to but these people seem to have the most detailed reports.

I guess every outlet is different really. We have them back in January .I asked for a cheaper rate and they obliged .One less on the team and they will stay a bit longer .That will be fine as the place will be closed on Sundays when they will complete the work.I suppose they would have to see the premises really.

You'll have to count. To make sure what you think is there is there. Have a look at RFID technology for the future:cool:

The best solution depends on what you want to do i.e. whether it is just to scan in numbers to track what you currently have in stock or if you want to link front and back office so that stock updates as you sell items too.

If you are using Sage they will be able to recommend either solution for you as they have a range of add ons available through their developers and partners which will link to your software.

just to point out with a complete computerised system - this wont account for any stock which goes missing and would need to be checked against a manual count.

sounds like best option is external team of stock counters.
