How old are you ? Have you ever been employed ? Are you living at home ?

You may well be entitled to sign on but depending on a few variables you may not get much off them.

Did you drop out of your masters because you couldn't afford to pursue it?

I had to defer my taught masters for personal reasons, it was originally supposed to be a one yeart masters with lectures, exams and a thesis. I finished and passed all exams and then deferred to his year, where I am submitting a thesis by research (or in lay terms in my own time so I'm available and looking for work). Because it is not full-time I was able to qualify for Job Seeker's Benefit in October after losing my job. I currently continue to do my masters, work one day a week and am on casual JSB (meaning I submit my hours each week depending on what they were so I still get a portion of the JSB). So it is possible to do a masters and get JSA/JSB as long as its not a taught masters - that is as long as you can show you are available and looking for work.

As others said - age? reason for leaving masters? type of masters?

So, you're entitled to claim. You'll need a letter from the college saying you've left. Your being over 25 means that S Welfare won't be means testing you against your parents earnings or deducting anything in respect of the 'benefit and privilege' of living at home. Bring your birth cert, photo id, proof of address etc., the college letter and any bank/credit union statements for last 6 months and P 45 from last job with you when you go to the SW just to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. Sorry about the Masters. You'll crack that another time.
