Freelance Typing Charges

I've tried to look into how much I should be charging for freelance typing (CVs, minutes, essays, projects, letters - anything really), but am totally unsure of what kind of rates people usually charge. All adverts for similar kinds of work that I've come across pretty much say for you to contact them and that their prices are "unbeatable"...

Does anyone here do this kind of work or recently had someone type something for them? Do you / did they charge by the page or by the hour?

Why not ring some of the other jobs and find out their rates?
Personally I think it would depend on both what your client is willing to pay and what your willing to charge.
A good indication would be to take your own CV, a chapter of a book and a news article and type each and see how long it takes.
then try and work a rate that you would be happy with.
for example it takes you 3 hours to type a chapter which when printed takes up 30 pages.
So I would charge 75 cent per page which would work at about 7.50 per hour at that rate.
Not great, but if you are only using it to supplement your income then its a start.
