I often wondered this, unfortantly im one of the many uenmployed people in life, single,im my late 20s,still live at home,i went to school and did my leaving etc, worked in few jobs, could never travel abroad due to money reasons, now to pass my time i took up few fas course etc but, could never secure employment, always made me feel like im a failure, looking at my other siblings and realatives they have secured good jobs and trades but i was always useless with my hands when came to practical stuff, years of bullying and depression left me a shy person, and i could never afford go to college so im one of the few here not holding degrees/dipolmas etc, recently at an interview i assume they where overlooking me due to not holding an college education,so i feel like a right waste, sitting home all day,i know i can change around my life but i really tried, but i can never get it right, sometimes it makes me want to give up on life.

Why can't you go to college? Do you live too far away or...?

So you made some decisions when you were younger that didn't pan out. No biggie. It happens to EVERYBODY believe ot or not. Very few people get through life without looking back on all or part of their lives and thinking 'I could've done better'.

You know you want to change your life. The only problem is you think you have to get it right. That doesn't make sense. Who are you getting it right for? There really are no rules for a successful life, what might work for your brothers and sisters might not work for you. What you have to do is make and take your chances, don't think that if you don't get it right that you're a failure, it's just that that particular chance didn't work out for you. Then move onto the next chance or opportunity. Work to make your own opportunities, and seize them if they're handed to you on a plate.

It takes time to believe that happiness in life is all down to you, and you might have some setbacks where an opportunity doesn't pan out. Doesn't mean that you've failed, see it as a learning opportunity. You really have to change your outlook if you want to move on from this position you've found yourself in

Firstly, the key to changing anything in your life, rests solely with you and your will to do so.

So, up to now things haven't been great for you or worked out how you might like.

You need to sit down and think of a career/vocation that would suit you, something you have an interest in etc...

You're a mature student and can apply to colleges for the new academic year in Sept/Oct. I think there may even be some grants available. Most University/college websites will have an information section on this.

Think long and hard about what you want to do and choose something that you think will be right for you.

In the mean time, perhaps think about doing volunteer work. Volunteer work should never be underestimated. It will provide you with experience, look good on your CV, give you a good feeling and help you to network. And of course, most importantly, you will be helping people that are in worse circumstances than you.

We all make choices in life - some are good some turn out bad - what they have in common is that good or bad you will learn a lot from the choices you make.

    All the best.

    Jebus.

Since you are on the dole you might be entitled to the back to education allowance. There is no reason why being bad at maths should stop you. I am awful at maths, yet have a Masters. There are plenty of courses that involve no maths whatsoever. This is your life, if you want change, make it happen!
