    Hi,

I've got a DELL XPS duo 2.4, 4GB memory laptop. Unftunatelly it running super slow and it takes ages to just open the folder and etc. No word for the internet. Slow connection is also adding to this problem. Also Left speaker is making really really wierd noise. This noise like something biting stuff 'hhvarf' and also beeps like 'biip'.

I have very good anivirus (kespersky) system running on the machine. Also, it is quite noisy compared to other laptops. I mean the fan is very strong and can hear it running and blowing air.

I have Vista Home edition installed and previously had a problem with the hard disc and replaced it.

Any suggestion and help is most appreciated.

    Thanks again.

Might be a dying HDD.... might not. Back up just in case.

Speaker problem is an odd one. I've a faulty speaker (which is covered by warranty, I just haven't bothered to get it fixed yet) which does that. It's clearly a loose connection.

If the fan is running hard, and the OS is running slow, this suggests that something might be hogging your processors. Either a virus, or an app that's gone out of control.

I suggest trying to boot of a Linux liveCD (I recommend http://www.xubuntu.org since I *know* it works on an XPS)... depending on how it runs/what it does, that'll tell you if the problem is hardware, or just Vista being broken. It'll also let you easily access your files, to move them to an external disk.

My laptop (left speaker) is making this weird sound. it sounds like recycling bin is being emptied or something is crashig or beep. Initially I thought it was a fan, but it is not. I opened everything and fan seems OK, because the sound comes when fan is not running.

Any suggestions? is it virus type of thing hiding in HDD without being cought by antivirus programme (Kaspersky)

Backup everything and restore it to its factory image. If its running well after that, then it was probably just overloaded with software thats whoring system resources or its gotten corrupt somewhere along the way.

If the problem is still happening after you've reloaded the original image, then you know its hardware related.

When you say "the fan is very strong and can hear it running" do you mean it's very loud and on all the time, or just that it's a loud fan?

I have a m1530 too - same specs, don't know whether you aware of this or not, but back a year or two ago when the m1530 was for sale - a lot of people had issues with them getting quite hot.

Thats sounds like a possibility if yours is going really slowly and the fan is quite loud. Try downloading a temperature monitoring program - hwmonitor, realtemp etc. and post back the results.
