As I mentioned in the m4 vs AK thread that was locked, The whole matter had got me thinking.

I would like, As I suggested to Masada, that he join me in this... test, if you will. But if he does not wish to, Another attending the Sennybridge game in May can take up the gauntlet.

The test is simple.

One M4

One AK

Two techs, two guns. The objective is to make each gun, as acurate, long range, and efficient as physically possible with airsoft parts on the market.
Which gun performs better? Which gun has better range? better accuracy? better rate of fire?

The debate itself is old. Both sides have thier preference, and there are those in the middle like myself that like and use both. I, personally would like to see if theres any real difference.

Would to top of the line upgraded guns perform identically? is there a real difference?

I say we put this to the test...

Five Rules: (if they are agreed with)

1: Only comercially available products may be used to upgrade, and a full list provided.

2: Photographs of each gun and the progress must be provided by both parties

3: The same voltage battery must be used: Standard 8.4volt, running the same MAH, and of the same cell type (Mini) (thankyou Stonewolf)

4: Independant Judges will decide.

5: We have fun... the important part.

Might I suggest actual identical batteries, same brand same mAh.

A good idea.

I suggest Component shop ones. they do a 1500mah mini, crane, and stick variants of the same voltage and cell type, probably the best bet. Problem is both guns take thier batteries different ways.

The m16 and an AKwhateveryewant have nigh on identical barrel lenghts, any other difference is negligible.

Now in reality the stoner rifle features the famous sh1t where you eat gas system which has NEVER been copied in another pattern rifle(bar direct, chinese clones of armalites for export), the AK on the other hand has inspired fixed piston long stroke systems in as modern rifles as the, ahem, masada and many others.

Bar the interest some may share in real steel operating mechanisms as I do, the airsoft versions are feckin' identical.

Now this is nothing to do with real steel.

Actually, I Hypothesize that the airsoft versions will differ in performance. The hop unit designs, and gearbox designs may have a factor, and I belive it will be an interesting exercise to exaine this.

(Actually the m16 has 50mm longer barrel, 509mm M16 -455mm AK)

Do the differnt designs internally have any role in performance? I don;t belive there has ever been a direct test, and barrel length alone is not a factor that equals all airsoft guns.

I personally see this as kinda pointless. Because wouldn't they essentially be the same internals...If both parties are just trying to get the max from their gun, similar if not the same parts will be bought and just put in two different shells.
But if you find someone else whose interested, go for it.

May I ask which gun you intend on putting forward?

Actually no, the parts are not the same in different shells. The hop unit and gearboxes of both models are different, quite fundimentally in the case of the hopup. Pointless? No.

I'm going to be putting forward my AKM for this.

I belive you'll be suprised by the difference. Due to design, I belive the AK model will be significantly better performing than the ar15. (my Hypothesis)
Airsoft internals are not as 'alike' as most belive...

Of couse this is open to discussion but 'well its all the same this is pointless' posts are somewhat unconstructive and rather apathetic... The point is to see if there is a point; where is science without testing what others ignore because of assumption?
This is for investigation, and a bit of fun. people are welcome to prove this hypotheis wrong... thats the nature of scientific investigation. This actually hasn't been done before, to my knowlage, ever. Surely thats something in itself?

Heck, you know what? if everyone feels its pointless, I'll put forward both guns myself, and spend the money myself, and and proove that theres a point.
But where is the fun in that?
This was meant to be a fun little exersise for those attending the Sennybridge game in May, and to be judged and tested at the weekend on the friday night before the game.

Well I'm sorry if you feel my opinion is unconstructive, but tough it's my opinion. If you don't like it I suggest you ignore it.

And I never said the parts are the same in different shells. I know there are differences in things such as the hopup. But I still think its pointless, I believe you'll get more or less the same results (Results not worth arguing about).

But like I said, if you find someone else whose interested, go for it.
The results might actually be interesting.

Edit:

I know parts tend to work differently in different guns. But might it be an idea to use as many as the same parts as possible in each gun. That way you would be testing the actually differences in the guns rather then the parts as well (sorry if thats worded badly).

the fact there and m4 and an ak makes no difference as you gong to be replacing mosr of the internals, the difference would be v2 and m4 style hop v v3 and ak style hop

Not even sure why I bother posting the articles etiher anymore, or anything. Literally anything i post is met by hostility and sniping and counter thanks... anything is torn apart and ridiculed and thrown in my face. Any time I try to help or be creative or do something for others everyone just tells me not to bother. You know what? Im finally going to take that advice.

Rather than explode and completely over react, you could have asked one of the moderators to drop in and tell all the 'this is pointless' people to get out. I didn't see this thread. No posts were reported. If someone had of told me I would have gladly posted that.
