Computer Not Detecting Speakers?

Just recently bought a new computer off a mate. Its a Dell XPS 600 with a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card. I've installed the latest drivers, and the speakers I'm using are a set of Altec Lansing ADA745 4.1 surround speakers. Theres 1 green cable to connect into the computer, but on the back of the computer theres about 4 different ports, but when I put the green cable into the green port theres no sound. I've configured and messed around with the settings in the Creative Audio Control Panel, but with no luck. Theres also a set of green and pink ports in the front of the computer, and when I plug the green cable into the green port on the front of the computer the speakers work. I don't want to have to plug them into the front because I have to have the computer at an awkward angle to plug it in, and its just messy.

I've tried plugging the green cable into the other coloured ports in the back, but with no luck either. I've tried everything, but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

what OS are you running? Sounds like Windows is just wanting to changed via control panel to use your soiunds card rather than the motherboard?

Ive had this problem b4, and it sounds like you tried the solution...

    which is...

Some combination of plugging out and in of the green cable to the green port, you will know you have succeeded because the audio software will detect the input and a msg will pop up...

I noticed that if I installed the driver with the audio jack in, no amount of rebooting and reinstalling will get it working...

So again with drivers installed and PC running plug it out and in again...

Can't remember if I had it plugged while I was installin the drivers, but I'll give it a go.

I'm sure you could disable the onboard sound via the BIOS

Sound card mightn't be sitting properly in the PCI slot?

Front ports I'm guessing are using the onboard sound
How many ports on the back? Are there ones on the card slot sticking out (and are they the ones you're trying to connect to not the motherboard ones)?

Theres 5 in the back, they don't seem to be sticking out though, not noticably anyway.

Also make sure your sound card is ok in Device Manager?

Not sure on Windows 7 but in XP you go to Control Panel -- Sounds and Audio Devices. You should see dopdown options for playback and record. Make sure the Soundblaster is selected for playback. Click Apply -- Ok.
