So I have just been laid off ..... :(

31 yo guy was working in IT ..

Big shock to me ... the silver lining is I got a good payoff + paro (equivalent of dole in Spain) which is about 2/3 of my original salary for 2 years...

So financially for (now anyway) I'm ok ... but it's a punch in the stomach I tell ya ...
especially in these times ..I need to keep positive ... but it's tough.

I can't help taking it personally ... allthough a lot of people have been fired here,
a very aggressive management system is in place there.... horrible place to work
and i wasn't happy , so I should see that as another positive.

So I think I'll hit the gym for the next week get myself feeling better physically
and then gather myself for the next step ...

how have other people dealt with being laid off??

Just do new things (i dunno, learn a new language or do something you've always wanted to do, you have a little spare cash) anything really, just have a routine. That's what your used to and that'll keep you going.

You didn't get fired, you got laid off - there's a BIG difference!

Agree with the previous poster - you need to keep busy. Do a course, volunteer for something, maybe retrain and do something you've always wanted.

While you may have lost your job, you still have your income and you've been given time. See it as a gift and use wisely!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but 2 years off on 2/3rds of your most recent salary sounds utterly fantastic to me OP!

Go get certified in some aspect of your job / area of IT you'd like to work in. Maybe do a masters? Re-train in something you've always fancied working in?

    Join the club!

At least you got a pay off, I got 150euro dunnes stores voucher.

Just try and stay in the routine of getting up early enough and get into doing a walk a day, its very easy to slip into getting up late and getting bogged down.

Just keep the spirits up, it could be way worse. Also sign on asap!
Im doing plenty exercise and thats the only thing keeping me sane, also I did a couple of exams on the side coming up to christmas, kept me in touch with the real world.

Losing your job is never fun, but just bear in mind what a sweet deal you got  There are thousands who were sacked with nowhere near as good a deal as that

Think of it as an opportunity -- the impetus you needed to get out of a job you hate, and find something that you enjoy :)

Got another and better job. Makes the redundancy payment even sweeter.
Just because you've been laid off doesn't necessarily mean there are no other jobs.
