according to some lad on Frontline.
    That's alot of funerals.

Most of them don't bother their arses turning up in the dáil more than once a week. Bertie Ahern, an elected representative has been missing in action since he resigned as Taoiseach.
    14-16 hours seems like alot.

14-16 hours one day a week I think is what they meant to say.

You are aware that the Dail is just a tiny part of what politicians do? You'd rather have them debate all day than actually getting stuff done?

Probably includes running all their other sidelines aswell.

You think they stop being spineless disingenuous cunts at 17:30? It's a full time occupation!

No, no, obviously I know that they have to make time for free dinners, free drinks, free hotels, free travel, free holidays, etc.
    It's a punishing schedule.

Serious point, just because theyre useless doesnt mean they dont work hard.

Joke all you will but I'd say it takes a lot of hours to retain your position as a politician. After all there's always a whole backline of just-as-big cúnts waiting in the grass to nab your place when/if you slip up.

They probably draw their work out over the course of 14 - 16 hours a day.
It doesn't mean that there aren't long periods during the day which they aren't watching Jeremy Kyle and Ellen like the rest of us.

Do private after-dinner speeches and running sideline buisnesses count...?

I've no doubt that they are hard-working, it's whose interests they are working in that I question.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Debating is their job. TDs are legislators. What "stuff" are they to get done?

Tbh, the only reason politicians go to funerals is because that is what the people demand of them.
They don't go for the craic.

A politician is always on the job, image is everything.

If I had some boring dinner to go to during my evening in front of the telly, you can be sure I had a lie in that morning.

I work a 14 hour day if you include my commute, but I don't work "everyday", like some politicians I'm sure.

14-16 hours per day, 365 days of the year no doubt.

We could all post up populist crap, but the reality is that its a job where there's almost no switch off time, and I wouldn't be surprised if some where going from morning to bedtime.

So why do you do it ?

The amount of time they work is irrelevant IMO,
I'd be happy with any politician working 4 hours a day if the results were there.

    They're not..

Just because I can spend 18 hours peeling two potatoes, Does that mean I'm doing a good job?

    But the results are there.

They are there in the playgrounds erected.
They are there in the potholes filled.
They are there in the ease of access to social welfare entitlements.

The idea of a TD as a national figure, one who pays attention to national issues, is one confined to leafy Dublin suburbs, and non-existant outside the Pale.
They do the work we ask them to.

I work on my problems when I am asleep (on a subconsious level)

I am sure the politicians are including this as working time.

Who actually times these 14-16 hour working days or is it just politicians tell us and we know how reliable politicians are.

If they are working 14-16 hour days maybe this explains why they make so many bad decisions.

The problem with TD's in this country is that most of their work is actually councillors work rather than National Representatives work. Fixing Potholes and getting the Local GAA club a changing room has nothing to do with getting the problems that face the country sorted. Until people realise this and until our political systems are re-designed to give councillors more power we are not going to make progress.

Sorting playgrounds out in the park doesn't put people back in jobs, doesn't ensure our Health Service is efficiently run or any of the other reasons we have a National Parliament. Its time people realised this whether they live inside or outside leafy suburbs

I'm sure lunch and dinner is included in those working hours. They probably meet in some fancy restaurant and have an extended lunch as it's technically a business meeting, which also means they won't have put their hands in their pocket, we'll take care of it as their on the clock..

If you ever see these kind of people have meetings they're very relaxed (bar the secretaries/assistance that are trying to document whats being said) and stocked with the finest of foods and expensive fresh coffee.

If they pick up a phone in the evening, that's "on duty".

In fairness to them they do have to be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week and while I'm sure it's head wreaking work they have the finest of everything and don't have to deal with the everyday hassles many of us do.
